What are Anti Wrinkle injections, and how do they work?

3 July 2023 by Omniya Clinic

In 2022, the term “aesthetic treatments” increased 54% in online searches during the last year. Experts part of this study suggest that social media platforms and digital camera filters have contributed to this rise. With more interest in aesthetic procedures, the study found that lip filler and botulinum toxin (botox) received 40,5000 online searches monthly in the UK.

Since FDA approval in 2002, Botox® injections have taken the world by storm, and just in the UK alone, 900,000 injections are carried out each year. It has gained an excellent reputation as an effective treatment for improving the signs of ageing. In this blog, we will touch on what anti wrinkle injections are, how they work and the benefits it brings to our clients.

What are Anti Wrinkle injections?

Anti wrinkle injections, commonly known as Botox®, are a non-surgical cosmetic procedure designed to minimise the appearance of facial wrinkles and fine lines and treat medical conditions such as excessive sweating

Botox® is a brand name derived from botulinum toxin, a naturally occurring protein produced by the bacterium Clostridium botulinum. This same toxin is known to cause a specific food poisoning called botulism, but when purified and used in small dosages, it can treat aesthetic and health problems. When botulinum toxin is used correctly, it will not put a person at risk of botulism and will only treat the area of concern.

How does Botox work?

Botox® injections temporarily relax the muscles responsible for causing dynamic wrinkles. These are a form of wrinkle caused by repeated facial expressions and muscle contractions over time.

Our trained practitioners will administer small amounts of the Botox® solution directly into the targeted muscles using a fine needle. The botulinum toxin acts as a neuromodulator, blocking the release of a neurotransmitter that signals muscle contractions. As a result, muscle activity is reduced, producing a softening and smoothing effect on the overlying skin.

Anti wrinkle injections are versatile, can treat different areas of the face and help with varying medical conditions such as hyperhidrosis and strabismus (eyes pointing in different directions). At Omniya Clinic, we offer a range of anti wrinkle treatments listed below, but not limited to:

  • Forehead Botox: The forehead is a popular area to treat as it frequently creases and wrinkles to express emotion. Botox® is injected to block the nerve signals from reaching the muscles in the forehead, which causes lines and wrinkles to emerge.
  • Jawline Botox: This form of Botox® can reduce the appearance of a square jawline and create a slimmer, heart-shaped result. It can additionally tackle teeth grinding (bruxism).
  • Neck Lift Botox: Known as the Nefertiti Neck Lift, neck botox includes multiple injections along the lower jawline and neck. This improves jawline definition, rebalances underlying muscles and lifts the neck and jawline.

Benefits of Anti Wrinkle injections

Anti wrinkle injections offer many advantages to patients that visit our London clinic. Botox® injections temporarily reduce wrinkles and fine lines for up to 3 months, bringing a subtle lifting and natural-looking effect with minimal downtime.

It is a proven confidence booster; whether it’s wrinkles or excessive sweating, Botox® can drastically improve a person’s self-confidence and help with medical conditions that impact day-to-day life.
