Our Cynosure Elite IQ machine, which is a class 4 medical grade laser can safely and effectively reduce or completely remove thread veins with little or no downtime.
Thread veins are also known as ‘telangiectasia’ are small red blood vessels that can appear in a spider-like form on the skin. They can occur on the face or body, although more commonly found around the nose, cheeks, and thighs. These are harmless but can be quite prominent on the skin, that people would like to remove as they can sometimes cause a ‘redness’ like appearance.
Our highly experienced laser specialist will assess the thread veins during a free consultation and advise you accordingly. A complimentary laser patch test will be carried out during this appointment to ensure suitability.
Veins (and smaller veins, capillaries) weave their way through our entire body and can be found just under the surface of the skin. They are important because they take deoxygenated blood back to the heart, from where it will return to the lungs for fresh oxygen. Oxygenated blood is then taken back to the heart from where it is pumped via our arteries, veins and capillaries to the rest of the body – this blood and network of vessels reach from our feet to our brain. This complex network of vessels throughout our bodies is constantly working to deliver blood to our organs and tissue. The veins and capillaries are very thin and over time they become tired and more dilated, this makes them look like they are closer to the surface of the skin. This is what the thread veins, commonly also known as spider veins are – they appear in small clusters of blue, red or purple – the medical terms for thread veins is telangiectasis. Like a blemish on the skin, they can make you feel self-conscious and when they start to have an impact on your confidence, the time has come to take action.
Our Sterex Advanced Electrolysis is a low risk and non-invasive method for treating your thread veins. The practitioners here at Omniya Clinic will use a small probe and gently tap it on the surface of the skin, above each individual capillary until it completely disappears. The gentle tapping on the skin, by the probe sends an extremely small current to the dilated vessel, this controlled and local concentration of electrical current heats up the walls of the thread veins and cauterises (seals) them. The sealing of the vein prevents any further blood flow through the vessel, and this causes the thread vein to disperse and be absorbed by the body so that it becomes much less noticeable. Sterex Advanced Electrolysis is a very effective method for treating any thread veins or spider veins that you may have.

Yes, as every clinic needs a record of a laser patch test been carried out for safety and insurance purposes. A patch test ensures there are no adverse reactions before going ahead with full treatment. Your test is normally performed on an area that is not directly visible to anyone else and you will need to wait for 48h ours before you can go ahead with your first treatment. This is complimentary and carried out during your consultation.
The laser treatment process usually takes between 15-30minutes depending on how many thread veins we are treating. Sometimes this may be longer due to this. At the consultation, your laser specialist will advise how long the treatment will be based on how many areas and the number of blood vessels to be treated.
The class 4 medical grade laser uses a direct single beam of energy that specifically targets the thread vein, which is then absorbed by the blood vessel without damaging the surrounding skin. The blood within the vessel then coagulates due to the heat, this then breaks down the vein. Depending on the size of the blood vessel, it will either be removed completely after one session or become smaller. Therefore, more than one treatment may be needed.
Before we begin treatment, we ensure no medical history has changed and you have not been in the sun within the last 4 weeks. Your laser specialist will then cleanse the area and provide you with safety goggles to protect your eyes against the laser light. A thin layer of cooling gel is then applied over the veins for extra cooling and to help with the absorption of energy. When the laser is ready to use, cold air will be coming out of the handpiece at the same time whilst treating the veins. This is for comfort and to protect the skin from any adverse reactions. Once all the thread veins have been treated, the cooling gel is then removed and aloe vera and SPF 50 is then applied.
