What Is Rosacea and How Can It Be Treated?

29 December 2022 by Omniya Clinic

Rosacea is a skin condition characterised by redness on the face, especially the nose and cheeks. The chronic condition causes the skin to flare up in painful outbursts which can result in discomfort and self-consciousness.

There are many different causes for rosacea, including diet, your environment, imbalances in skin or gut bacteria and auto-immune conditions.

What Are the Symptoms?

The symptoms of rosacea can begin with episodes of flushing, which involves the skin turning red for prolonged periods of time. Other symptoms can include burning, stinging, pimples, and rashes.

Rosacea is a relapsing condition, meaning there are periods where symptoms are worse than others. Research has shown that women are more likely to have rosacea, and the symptoms are less severe for men.

In advanced cases, the condition can result in rhinophyma. This condition causes the nose to swell due to the cells becoming enlarged. If the condition progresses, a bumpy surface may become prominent on the skin.

What Are the Triggers for Rosacea?

There are numerous known triggers for rosacea flare ups, including dietary factors like drinking red wine and eating spicy foods. Environmental factors such as the temperature and climate can also encourage rosacea.

It takes time to discover individual triggers for rosacea as each case is unique. The National Rosacea Society advise that people who suffer from the condition to keep a medical diary. The diary not only includes a daily checklist of common triggers for rosacea flare ups, but also allows space to log any other factors that affect your individual condition.

Rosacea Treatments at Omniya

There are a variety of treatments available to help the appearance of rosacea, including antibiotics prescribed by a dermatologist. However, here at Omniya, we offer numerous cosmetic procedures which actively target rosacea to help you feel more confident in your skin.

LED Light Therapy

LED light therapy uses different degrees of LED wavelengths to achieve smooth and radiant skin. Red, amber, yellow, and blue lights are all used to penetrate different depths of the skin.

The procedure helps to lower the appearance of rosacea, whilst also restoring damaged tissues and cells to improve the overall appearance of the skin.

Laser Treatment

Intense pulsed light technology is widely used by dermatologists to target a range of common skin concerns, including rosacea.

This three-step treatment provides clients with optimum stimulation of both the dermis and epidermis, resulting in collagen renewal to help with deep tissue scaring and uneven skin tones.
