Anti-Wrinkle Injections: Discussing Botox for Crows Feet

The eyes are such an important feature of your face, so, in this blog, we explore: the wrinkles around your eyes, what is Botox, how does it treat wrinkles, what is the best way to get rid of crow’s feet and where else can Botox be injected by our incredible team of experts?

Some people love them, and some people want rid of them. What exactly are crow’s feet…on my face? If you can visualise what a crow’s foot looks like – scrawny, thin and they are not altogether that attractive.

Crow’s feet refer to the tiny wrinkles etched beside the corner of your eyes. They appear when you’re happy, sad, annoyed or even deep thought. Crow’s feet can add character and be a beautiful addition to a face. So, let’s not assume crow’s feet are a definite wantaway. To that point, we should probably tell you a couple of the more appealing names for crow’s feet: laugh lines and character lines. Whilst they’re much more flattering names, in reality, they are still a sign of the inevitable – we are ageing.

Your eyes are often the first places to display the sign that we are ageing, as the skin is much thinner (40% less, and more gentle than other parts of your face). On top of this, they can often appear more noticeable, and deeper on your face and in your skin.

I would imagine, if you interviewed 100 people about their own crow’s feet and whether they would want them treated, you’d get very mixed results. The reality is, eventually, the vast majority of us will probably get them, and some, like this author, will want to treat them. If you’re fond of your smile lines, and don’t want them to be treated, then our journey here is complete. Smile, frown and enjoy another part of our website. But if you want to know how to treat crow’s feet, please, read on.

Why do we get crow’s feet?

Picture a rubber band and liken that to your skin. When your skin is compressed and pulled (through your normal daily activities), it has an impact on your skin.

As we age, as is the case with the rubber band, skin elasticity is lost, which causes parts of your body to become more droopy, with wrinkles forming. Elastin (the stretch) and collagen (the plumpness) reduces as time goes by. If we lived in a vacuum, this would still be the case, but now, add free radicals, hormonal changes , and sun damage, the effect is multiplied. Add to this vacuum that, we blink around 20,000 times per day, smile, laugh, cry (some more than others for each of these), and you soon realise why we end up with lines and wrinkles. You will probably notice a lot of celebrities refusing to smile to slow down their ageing! Please don't do that!

But how can I treat crow’s feet and my eye wrinkles? What about Botox ® for crows feet?

The most common, traditional and a very successful way of treating crow’s feet is by administering (injecting) botulinum toxin. The most well-known brand of botulinum toxin is Botox, which you will no doubt be aware of. More about Botox and what it is can be found in various blogs on this site.

How does Botox for crows feet work?

Botox temporarily relaxes muscles, and can be targeted to the area which is subject to creasing and wrinkling. At Omniya, our experts inject Botox into the muscles around the eyes, causing the visual impact of crow’s feet to reduce, or disappear altogether.

Treatment results can never be guaranteed, and expectations must be managed (most notably because we all react differently). However, in expert hands (look at their hands), results can be fantastic and you can get rid of crow’s feet and laughter lines.

We always recommend an initial consultation with one of our team to ensure that you are suitable, and understand the treatment, the benefits and the risks of any treatment you are interested in. Your practitioner will assess you, your face and your suitability for the treatment of crow’s feet, and if appropriate, will discuss the treatment options with you.

Is Botox permanent?

Botox is a temporary anti-wrinkle solution, which usually lasts approximately 3-4 months, and in some cases up to 6 months.

You should expect your Botox results to start appear within 2-5 days, depending on how your body responds to the treatment. These results will continue to improve for approximately 14 days, which is when you would expect to see the final results. We would recommend a review appointment after 14 days to ensure you are satisfied with your treatment.

Will Botox make me look frozen?

In the right hands, no, it should not. At Omniya Clinic, we are advocates of the less is more approach. We want to help you to look and feel well. Some inexperienced practitioners may inject large doses of Botox into the muscles, giving you this  frozen look. These are obvious to tell, just by looking at the person. You’ll see many of these people, politicians, sports people and celebrities, who don’t sweat, and have no facial expressions.

In what areas is Botox injected to treat crow’s feet?

We, at Omniya, use Botox to reduce or remove deep wrinkles, caused by ageing.

Common areas where we treat patients at Omniya Clinic include forehead and frown lines, neck bands, gummy smiles, the upper lip, jawline but also, it can be used for hyperhidrosis (excess sweating) and bruxism (teeth grinding).

What about Fillers? Which is better, Botox ® or fillers?

Botox and fillers are two very different choices of product. Simply put, the products do different things. At Omniya Clinic, we use Botox ® to reduce the muscular activity that cause you wrinkles. We use dermal fillers to fill the particular area with collagen. This helps to stimulate collagen growth, plump and lift the skin to replace any collagen loss.
