Mesotherapy Treatment Information
What is mesotherapy?
Mesotherapy is an incredible treatment that uses injections of plant extracts, hormones, enzymes, and vitamins, which remove excess fat, as well as tightening and rejuvenating the skin. It is a technique that has been used since 1952, however, back then, it was simply used for pain relief. Over the years, it has developed considerably. Today, mesotherapy can be used to…
- Lighten pigmented skin
- Recontour the bod
- Tighten loose skin
- Fade lines and wrinkles
- Reduce cellulite
- Remove fat in areas like the face, arms, legs, hips, buttocks, thighs, and stomach
- Treat alopecia – a condition that can cause hair loss
The treatment will involve fine needles being used to deliver a number of injections to the mesoderm of the skin. The mesoderm is the middle layer of the skin. The idea behind mesotherapy is that the underlying issues are corrected that cause skin problems, such as inflammation and poor circulation.
The benefits of mesotherapy
Mesotherapy can instantly improve skin that looks tired and dull, as well as improving the appearance of superficial wrinkles. If that was not enough, it can aid the body in flushing out ageing toxins, as it enhances sluggish blood circulation. This is what is so great about this treatment; it does not merely improve your appearance at surface level, it gets to the bottom of the problem, offering health benefits and lasting results. You can also use this treatment to address acne scarring and pigmentation issues. Some of our patients also use it with other treatments in order to achieve a look they have always dreamed about.
What happens during mesotherapy?
During each session of mesotherapy, you may or may not have numbing cream applied to the area. This depends on you and the area that is being treated. A special short needle will be used to deliver a number of injections. The injections can be given at various depths, ranging from one to four millimetres, into your skin. This depends on the type of condition that is being treated. While injecting, the practitioner may flick their wrist very quickly or place the needle into your skin at an angle. This all depends on the sort of treatment you are having and the condition that you have.
In order to get the desired effect, most people are going to need a number of mesotherapy sessions. You should expect to see the doctor three times. Some people have mesotherapy many more times than this. This is something that we will be able to advise you on. At first, you are probably going to have injections every seven to ten days. If your skin begins to get better, the treatments will stretch out over a longer period of time.
Treatments will usually take around 30 minutes. Most people do not describe mesotherapy as painful, rather stating that it is a little bit uncomfortable. As mentioned, if the skin is a little sensitive, anesthetic cream can be used. There is minimal downtime. A little bit of swelling and bruising may happen, but it should settle within a day. Your skin will become firmer, nourished, hydrated, and more radiant, and you will notice an improved texture too.
Mesotherapy for cellulite
This treatment can also be used to get rid of dimpling fat that lies beneath the skin. Cellulite is something a lot of people experience, and you may think that you’re going to be stuck with cellulite forever, but you don’t have to simply put up with this. Cellulite occurs when there is a build-up of toxins, fluid, and fat, which are trapped within a hardened network of connective tissue fibres in the mesoderm layer of your skin. Venous circulation and lymphatic circulation is poor in these areas. You can use mesotherapy to treat this, as it can increase the lymphatic and venous flow, as well as eliminating dimpling and fat in the area. In four weeks, you should notice that your skin is a lot smoother. Where cellulite is treated, you can lose anywhere from two to four inches.
Aftercare for mesotherapy
There are a number of different steps you can take to make sure you get the most from your treatment and enhance your results. This includes the following…
- Massage with Arnica cream or gel between three and four times per day in order to help with bruising and swelling.
- Avoid sun exposure for 48 hours once you have had the treatment and until the bruising subsides. If you do need to go in the sun, make sure you use SPF 25 or greater at all times.
- Drink a minimum of 64 ounces of water on the day of the treatment. You should also continue this level of water intake for up to one week after the treatment.
- After the treatment, avoid exercising for two days. Exercise is going to cause you to sweat, which means the solution will excrete out of your skin’s pores. This is going to decrease the effectiveness of the treatment, which is the last thing you want. So, use this as an opportunity to take some time off the gym.
- You also need to make sure you do not take a shower or wash for at least eight hours after the treatment. Do not take a hot bath for at least two days. Once the 48-hour period is up, make sure baths are only limited to 15 minutes for the first week. This can help with any sort of bruising that might have happened.
Who is unable to have mesotherapy?
This treatment is not suitable for anyone who is pregnant. You may also not be able to have mesotherapy if any of the following applies to you:
- You are on a number of medications for heart disease.
- Have a history of blood clots.
- History of recent cancer.
- You have a history of stroke.
- You are insulin-dependent diabetic.

Are there any risks or side effects?
As is the case with any sort of treatment, there are always going to be side effects and risks. Nevertheless, the risks are minimal if you opt for a trained practitioner like Omniya.
Some of the side effects that may be experienced are as follows:
- Dark patches of skin
- Bumps at the injection site
Mesotherapy is not pain-free. However, it’s not really uncomfortable either. You can opt to have numbing cream applied as well, so you have nothing to worry about here.
Yes, this treatment can instantly enhance tired and dull looking skin and superficial wrinkles.
For optimal results, it is advisable to have a course of between four and six treatments. Accordingly, once the course that has been recommended is completed, you can expect the results to last between 12 and 18 months.
Mesotherapy will enhance your skin’s texture. It cannot replace volume loss, as it is not a filler. Nevertheless, it can be used alongside filler should you wish. It can prolong the life of filler, stimulating elastin and collagen where volume is lost, and therefore, improving the face’s plumpness.
Mesotherapy is a treatment that combines a powerful mixture of vitamins, which are injected into the skin. Microneedling, on the other hand, involves microscopic needles being moved over the face to cause miniscule puncture marks, which will activate elastin and collagen production.
Performing home treatments of this type is not advised. We recommend that this is a treatment that should only be carried out by someone with the correct training and qualifications. Even if you do find a DIY kit available, we do not recommend using such a product.
We do not recommend wearing makeup for at least a few days. Additionally, no active products such as alcohol-based topical skincare, Retinol, benzoyl peroxide, BHA’s, or AHA’s should be used for five days.
