Is Laser Hair Removal Safe?

at Omniya Clinic in London

Laser hair removal is known for being a safe treatment. There have not been any reported long-term health risks that are associated with the procedure. Nevertheless, in order to make sure that the treatment is as safe as it should be, it should always be carried out by a practitioner that is fully qualified. This is why Omniya is the recommended choice. All of our practitioners have many years of experience and have received the required qualifications to carry out laser hair removal safely and effectively.

Is laser hair removal permanent?

There are conflicting reports regarding whether laser hair removal is permanent. Will it last? Of course, it is impossible to guarantee that you are never going to get another hair again. However, after you have had between six and eight treatments, you can expect a considerable reduction in hair. You can always get a touch-up treatment if you notice any hair growth in the future.

Is laser hair removal painful?

When you are ready to begin, we will prime your skin by using a pre-prep solution. You can also use a fan to help you with any sting or tingling sensation. We will then start to peel. This will take around 30 minutes, although this can differ from patient to patient. Once we are finished, we will apply a post-peel moisturiser and some sunscreen, and then you’re good to go.

For results, it will usually take between two and three weeks for you to see the full results. This is once your skin has healed. For deep or medium, it may take a bit longer. Sometimes it can take a few months before the results are evident, but your skin will look smoother, radiant, and vibrant.

Who is a good candidate for laser hair removal?

You may have heard rumours that only certain people can have laser hair removal. However, the treatment is actually suitable for most people. It’s simply a case that some skin and hair types can be more difficult than others, which might mean more treatments are needed. However, this is something that one of our practitioners will explain to you during the consultation phase. This is why the consultation is so important. The practitioner will take a look at your skin and hair type, and they will make their recommendations regarding how many treatments they think you’re going to need.

Generally speaking, there are three things that are going to impact the number of treatments required: your hair type, skin type, and the treatment area. Coarse and dark hair is the best hair type of laser hair removal. Nevertheless, advances in technology mean that lighter hairs can be treated. Dark hair and pale skin is the ideal combination. This is because the contrast between the dark hair and light skin enables the melanin to be targeted easily. If you have darker skin or light hair, you may need to have a few more treatments.

Laser hair removal works extremely well when it comes to larger areas, such as the back, arms, legs, and underarms, facial hair (chin or upper lip) and bikini area for example. All of these areas have seen effective results from laser treatment. Laser hair removal is best for groupings of hair that need to be removed permanently, rather than the odd hair here and there.

How many sessions of laser hair removal will you need?

It’s important to understand that the laser light will only impact the hairs that are in the anagen phase, which means they are actively growing. At any one time, different hair follicles are going to be in different hair growth stages. These cycles of hair growth can differ between a few months and a year. This is why you will need to have a number of laser hair removal treatments to make certain that all hairs are caught while they are in the anagen phase.

Treatment will be carried out every month on the face, and every six to seven weeks on the body. The number of treatments that are needed varies. However, you will typically need between six and eight for optimal results. This means that a full course of treatment on the body will typically take 11 months, and a full course of treatment will take around seven months on the face.

In terms of how long the treatment will take, this is going to depend on the size of the area that is being treated. For example, if you are having your upper lip treated, this will only last around five minutes. However, if you are having your back or legs treated, this could last as long as an hour.
