Why Profhilo Deserves its High Profile

Why Profhilo® Deserves Its High Profile

Best-selling novelist and beauty fan Marian Keyes loves it – but then, so do most of the leading magazine beauty editors in the UK, America, Europe and the Middle East. No wonder then, that just a few years ago, the Italian-launched skin booster Profhilo® was voted the Best Aesthetic Product Innovation of the Year.

And there are more than 150,000 patients who won’t disagree.

Not a dermal filler which is injected into a particular area of the face, but more a hyaluronic acid gel to hydrate the entire face, Profhilo® is all about the complexion. The process, in turn, helps soften wrinkles and fine lines.

The treatment provides the skin with the same sort of glow and luminosity that you would have if you managed to sip numerous litre bottles of water a day – every day. That’s because after you have received the injections of hyaluronic acid, the body’s production of skin-smoothing collagen and elastin increases dramatically. And in a natural way.

Who gets the best results from Profhilo®?

Women aged 30 and over particularly notice a difference in the softness and luxuriousness of their skin after treatment. The reason for this being a reduction in both collagen and elastin production in the fourth decade. And that, in turn, leads to lack-lustre, dry skin, fine lines and, eventually, wrinkles.

The treatment is also suitable for older women – in their sixth or seventh decade. By this point though, it is expected that the lines and wrinkles will be deeper and, to really make a difference, Profhilo®, should be combined with some other form of aesthetic treatment.

What does Profhilo® treatment involve?

After an initial consultation to check that this is indeed the treatment that will bring the results you are looking for, you will be booked in for the first step of the procedure. You can choose whether or not to have a numbing gel applied if you are nervous about the injections. Many clients don’t actually bother with this though.

The injections are at five points on both sides of the face. The procedure doesn’t take long and there may be a little swelling at the injection points, but this will reduce after half a day.

You will then be asked to return to the clinic four weeks later to undergo the same procedure. It is at this point that you should certainly start to see the results of Profhilo® - a glowing complexion and an increase of firmness and elasticity in the skin over the first few weeks.

The actual injected gel treatment remains in the face for up to a month but its effects on collagen and elastane continue for up to six months afterwards.

What is the difference between Dermal Fillers and Profhilo®?

Dermal Fillers work by adding volume to certain parts of the skin (ie ‘plumping out’ the skin). Because of this, they are very effective at making the lips appear plumper, the cheeks less wrinkled etc. Profhilo® is a hydrating treatment, with the hyaluronic acid dispersed evenly throughout the entire face.

Why is Profhilo® so effective?

Not all women – or men – require a volumising filler for the results they are seeking. Also, some individuals would prefer to boost their complexion and look refreshed, rather than get rid of fine lines. Another reason Profhilo® works so well is because it has one of the highest concentrations of hydraulic acid available in the cosmetic market.

Is Profhilo® suitable for everyone?

We don’t recommend the treatment for pregnant women or women who are still breastfeeding. We do, however, recommend it for both men and women aged 30 years and over who want their skin to look and feel younger, whilst also rejuvenated.

Is there any restriction on my lifestyle after Profhilo® treatment?

You don’t have to change your lifestyle dramatically post Profhilo®. Return to work the following day if you like but do avoid heavy physical work or going to the gym and playing sport. It is also a good idea to stay away from steam for a few days afterwards – so definitely no saunas!

What about restrictions before receiving Profhilo® treatment?

In order to lessen the chance of bruising caused by injections, it is a good idea to avoid alcohol up to 24 hours beforehand. For the same reason try to avoid anti-inflammatory medication, such as aspirin and ibuprofen etc up to seven days before your treatment is due.

How quickly will I notice the results of Profhilo®?

You will actually notice a slight change straight away. There will be a little swelling at first but this will reduce over the next 24 hours (and usually after five hours). Next day, expect to be complimented on how ‘fresh’ your complexion is - rather than being asked if you have had treatment. In other words, there won’t be any evidence that you have visited us at Omniya Clinic!

Are there any side effects of Profhilo®?

There are very few side-effects. You may suffer bruising as well as swelling where the skin has been injected but this doesn’t last long. Some people also report a little ‘redness’ and ‘tenderness’ which can last up to one week.

The reason why there is a reduced likelihood of side effects is because the body naturally produces hyaluronic acid in the skin (as well as the eyes and connective tissue). Its purpose is to keep the tissues moist. As a result, it is less likely to have an allergic reaction to the injections or to reject the gel.

Do people use Profhilo® in other areas of the body?

The treatment is also injected into the neck and decollate areas to improve smoothness and the appearance of firmness. For the same reasons, individuals like having the injections in their arms, hands and knees too.
