Does Your Weight Loss Programme Need A Boost? Saxenda, Victoza & Ozempic Explained

19 January 2022 by Omniya Clinic

We’ve all been there. The endless nights at the gym, the pitiless diets that leave you permanently ‘hangry’. But the results just aren’t coming.

An Ipsos poll conducted last year showed 45% of the global population are actively trying to lose weight. The poll also showed a wide range of different approaches, with no real consensus about the best way to lose weight.

Here at Omniya, we can help you eliminate the guesswork. To create an effective weight loss programme, you need to work with professionals who can properly assess you, and the key physical indicators that will allow you to lose weight in a healthy and efficient way.

Booking a weight loss consultation with Dr Sohère Roked, specialised in nutrition and digestive health, will allow you to get the results your body needs without the drama, guesswork, and frustration.

Treatments Or Weight Loss

Here at Omniya, we can combine holistic nutritional therapy approaches with the very latest treatments and procedures to create weight loss programmes that are both effective and safe.

One of the most exciting recent developments in weight loss treatments is the use of medications based on Liraglutide and Semaglutide. The three medications available containing these active ingredients are Saxenda, Victoza and Ozempic. These medications have been developed to treat obesity and type-2 diabetes.

Saxenda Weight Loss

Saxenda contains 3 mg of Liraglutide, and is administered using the Saxenda pen as a daily injection into the thigh or arm. It’s a subcutaneous injection which means you don’t have to try and put it in a vein, just under the skin, making it safe for you to do at home.

Saxenda is licensed as a weight-loss medication in the UK by the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA). It works by interacting with your insulin levels to slow the process of food leaving your stomach.

Using Saxenda, you’ll experience a reduced appetite. In some cases, there are initial side effects (including mild nausea and diarrhoea) that will dissipate as your body adjusts to the medication.

Victoza Weight Loss

Victoza is licensed in the UK by the MHRA as a medication for type-2 diabetes. Just like Saxenda, the principal ingredient is Liraglutide, and Victoza is also self-administered using subcutaneous injection pen.

The main difference between Saxenda and Victoza is the strength of the dosage – Victoza contains a smaller amount of Liraglutide, in order to provide the most effective treatment for type-2 diabetes.

Ozempic Weight Loss

The principal ingredient of Ozempic is Semaglutide. Semaglutide has been shown to be more effective than Liraglutide for weight loss. During a 68-week trial, those using Semaglutide experienced an average 15.8% weight loss, compared with the 6.4% average weight loss experienced by those using Liraglutide.

Ozempic is currently licensed in the UK by the MHRA as a medication for type-2 diabetes. However, there are extensive clinical trials underway to assess Semaglutide’s safety and efficacy as a weight loss medication.

When these are complete, we can expect to see Semaglutide licensed by the MHRA (under a different trade name) and made available across the UK via specialist weight loss clinics such as Omniya.
