Dark Circles

At Omniya Clinic in London

Dark circles under the eyes have the effect of prematurely ageing an individual, whilst also giving a tired look. Our patients at Omniya Clinic trust our experts to rejuvenate around the eyes – the window to the soul.

Chronic lack of sleep, allergies and thinning skin can all result in dark circles under the eyes. They can be demoralising to look at in a mirror – especially if you’ve just surfaced after a good eight hours sleep.

Their causes can be manifold though. It could simply be down to poor sleep but dark circles – also referred to as eye bags – can also be the natural result of ageing. That’s because as we get older we lose volume in our lower eyelid, midface and cheek area, causing an overall ‘slackening’ in our face. But then, those dark circles could also be the result of medications causing skin pigmentation, or of certain allergies and/or skin conditions such as rosacea. Obviously, it’s important to determine the cause before embarking on any treatment regime.

Blepharoplasty works well for eye bags ie when fat pockets form under the lower eyelid, causing bulges and which resemble dark circles. This is a form of cosmetic surgery for the eyelids. It also works in combination with lower lid hollowing where the fat can be repositioned. With lower lid hollowing on its own dermal fillers can help improve the ‘volume’ in the face, and the skin pigmentation. Fillers can be synthetic (hyaluronic acid agents) or grafted abdominal fat from the patient him/herself.
