If you’re looking to get to the bottom of an irritable stomach or you have been trying to lose weight for some time and you’ve had little success, Omniya Clinic’s gut health treatments could help you. We will get to the bottom of the root cause of the symptoms you are experiencing. We will determine whether you have any food intolerances or whether there are any deficiencies or imbalances in your diet.

When you visit Omniya Clinic for a gut health consultation, you will experience more than an appointment; you will get a full wellness experience. We offer a wide range of services so that we can ensure all of your health needs are catered to. Read on to discover more about the different services we offer for gut health and please do not hesitate to get in touch to ask us anything you’d like to know or to book an appointment.

What does a gut health nutrition consultation involve?

Here at Omniya, we will provide you with a complete gut health nutrition. We will ensure that this is an engaging experience where you feel comfortable about discussing your health goals and your concerns. We will then work with you to put together a bespoke treatment plan that you’re happy with. We certainly don’t provide a one-size-fits-all approach. We know that everyone’s goals and health needs are different. We will offer our expert advice on the right steps forward for you, yet we will listen to you and what you feel comfortable with to ensure that the end result is a collaboration, rather than being a bespoke plan we simply force onto you.

What to expect from a gut health consultation

Beforehand, we will speak to you on the phone to arrange your appointment, or via email, and we will make sure you receive pre-consult forms that we will need you to fill in and supply to us. This enables us to assess your food diary and have an understanding of your health and nutrition before we meet you. Our clinicians will then carry out in-depth, professional research, offering you an extensive written treatment plan. We will explain how your lifestyle habits and diet habits could be contributing to the symptoms you are experiencing. We will then put together a lifestyle and dietary program that is bespoke to you and designed specifically to your needs. We can also provide you with personalised herbal medicine and/or dietary supplement programme. Of course, you will also be able to ask us any queries that you have about your health, nutrition, and lifestyle.

Testing for food intolerances

A lot of people believe they have food allergies. However, it is often the case that they have a food intolerance, rather than an allergy. What’s the difference between the two?

Let’s explain a food allergy first. This is an immediate and severe reaction to food. Symptoms can often include a runny nose, swelling, rashes, and difficulty breathing. Some people can experience a life-threatening anaphylactic shock. On the other hand, an intolerance is not usually instant; instead, it is a delayed reaction, which often takes a few hours to surface but can even take a few days or a week. Numerous studies have shown that 40 per cent of the population have food intolerances, whereas only around three per cent of the population suffer from food allergies.

Typically, when a person has an intolerance to a type of food, this is down to an underlying gut condition or poor health of the gut. The lining of the gut is only a few cells thick and it can be damaged with ease, which creates erosion that will increase the permeability. Food particles that have been partially digested are then able to pass through the barrier, into the bloodstream. They are then recognised as foreign invaders in the immune system. This process is called leaky gut and can be the main cause of autoimmune responses and chronic inflammation in any tissue or organ.

In order to determine any key allergens, a food intolerance test will be carried out. This is important for the reduction of inflammation and to be sure that the body and gut lining can be given the chance to heal. Nevertheless, it is critical to understand how the gut lining was damaged, to begin with. This could be because of viral infections, bacterial infections, antibiotics, excess alcohol, stress, poor diet, or another reason. We will help you get to the bottom of this so that you can stop experiencing the uncomfortable symptoms you have been.

It is possible for a person to be intolerant to a number of different foods. Some of the symptoms that can be experienced are as follows…

  • Rashes, eczema, and other skin disorders
  • Headaches and migraines
  • Fluid retention
  • Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS)
  • Rhinitis and sinusitis
  • Asthma
  • Brain fog and fatigue
  • Constipation and bloating

Nutrition and health testing

The root cause of any sort of medical or health complaint is specific to the person and a number of different factors have an impact on this, including physical stress, psychological stress, toxicity exposure, lifestyle, diet, and genetics. Functional testing will help us to understand these different factors so that the problem can be treated in an effective and efficient manner. We will select the most advanced testing from specialist labs so that we are able to get to the bottom of any symptoms you’re encountering or any of your concerns about your health.

Prevention is better than cure when it comes to your health and nutrition, though. So, not only is this beneficial for people who have health complaints, but it can also be used when it comes to staying ahead of the game in terms of your health and preventing disease. Pretty much every complex chronic disease is preceded by disturbances in functionality over the long-term. If you are able to detect this early on, it can be resolved before issues and symptoms that are more serious happen.

Functional tests will usually involve a stool, urine, blood, saliva, or breath sample. You can conduct most of these at home. Nevertheless, when a draw of blood is needed, this can be arranged for you with ease. From food intolerance testing to toxicity testing; we offer a wide range of different tests to help you live your healthiest life.

Intravenous nutrient therapy

Omniya Clinic is also pleased to offer intravenous nutrient therapy, which is also known as IV therapy. This is thought to have been started by a physician from Baltimore, John Myers, who pioneered the utilisation of mineral and vitamin administration intravenously as part of the overall treatment of a number of different health conditions.

Gut health FAQs

Why does good nutrition matter for gut health?

Good nutrition is a critical part of leading a healthy lifestyle. When this is combined with exercise, you can reach a healthy weight and maintain it while also reducing your risk of a chronic disease and promote overall health.

How do you test for food sensitivity?

When it comes to food allergies, blood tests, skin pricks and other samples (such as stool samples) can be used to measure immunoglobulin E, or IgE, which is a protein. These tests are used to diagnose sensitivity. If IgE antibodies are present, this tends to indicate an immune system response.

What triggers gut health food intolerance?

A food allergy will trigger the immune system. A food intolerance does not. Some of the foods that are most commonly linked with food intolerance include grains, dairy products, and food that contain gluten, as well as foods that cause gas buildup in the intestines, such as cabbage and beans.

Can food intolerance develop later in life?

A lot of food intolerances and allergies develop in childhood. However, they can develop at any time of life. It is not clear why, but some adults can develop an allergy to a food that they used to eat without any sort of issues. Also, sometimes a child will outgrow a food allergy, yet it can then reappear in adulthood.

Can you suddenly become intolerant to gluten?

There are scenarios whereby you can be exposed to gluten for as long as 60 years, and then you can develop celiac disease. There was a case whereby someone tested negative for celiac disease when they were 50 years old, and they then developed symptoms when they were 65 years old. You can develop a gluten intolerance at any age.

How often should you get intravenous nutrient therapy for gut health?

Most IV treatments are not advised more than two times per month because you are provided with a highly concentrated dose, and so you don’t want to overdo it. The vitamins will remain in your system and provide benefits for a period between two and three weeks. It does differ based on the person and the reason for them needing treatment.

How long does it take for IV therapy to work?

Receiving an IV treatment is something that can differ from person to person. Usually, it will take between 30 minutes and 45 minutes for this treatment to be carried out. The best thing to do is to make sure you allow at least an hour for the treatment.

Why should you see a nutritionist for your gut health?

There are many different reasons why you should see a nutritionist. Some people do so because they want help with specific issues, including eating disorders, fertility issues or planning a pregnancy, mood disorders, weight management, digestive issues, and food allergies and intolerances. There are then people who see a nutritionist simply because they want to live their healthiest life and reduce the chances of suffering from any sort of conditions in the future.
