What Happens During A Facial?

At Omniya Clinic in London

Each facial starts with a consultation. This will help our skin expert to determine the correct products for your skin concerns and skin type. Once this has been determined, the relaxation is going to start. Below, we are going to take a look at the five steps that will usually be followed during a facial…

  • Cleansing
  • Exfoliation
  • Extractions
  • Massage
  • Masks

What to expect from your facial

The 5 steps of your facial treatment

Cleansing

A skin specialist will massage a cleanser into your neck, face, and decolletage. This will remove any traces of dirt and makeup. They will then use a cotton pad, cloth, or facial sponge, and warm water in order to get rid of the cleanser. This will help the practitioner to determine what sort of custom mask is going to be right for you.

Exfoliation

The next part of the process of exfoliation. We can either open up the pores with steam or we can buff away dead skin cells with a scrub or exfoliating cream.

Extractions

The process is done so that the single pores are cleared that are clogged with dead skin cells or excess oil, which can form acne and blackheads. A special metal tool can be used for the extractions or they can be done by hand.

Massage

A facial will also usually include a massage of the face. This can be incredibly relaxing and it can be done to improve lymphatic drainage.

Masks

A custom mask will then be applied. If you have dryness, a hydrating facial mask may be used. If you have oily skin, a clay-based facial mask may be better. The facial will conclude with sunscreen, moisturiser, and a serum.

What are the benefits of a facial?

There are a number of different benefits that you will experience by having a course of facial treatment. These include, but are not limited to:

Deep cleanse

A deeper, better cleanse can be expected with a facial at Omniya, especially when compared with home facials. This will help your skin to get rid of the buildup of dirt, toxins, and oil that happens due to your everyday environment. A facial will get rid of all of the bacteria that could result in skin problems. A good exfoliation will eradicate all of the dead skin cells from your skin’s surface, unclogging your pores and allowing other products to be absorbed so your skin can benefit from more nutrients. This will make your skin look smoother and softer. It will also make your makeup look better, especially as it will be easier to blend. Extraction, if required, is amazing for preventing breakouts, as well as removing pimples, whiteheads, and blackheads. You will feel much more confident after a treatment like this.

Improve your skincare routine

A good skin specialist is going to analyse your skin condition. They will help you to select the right treatment for your face based on your skin type. You will be able to pick up some great advice by speaking to an Omniya professional about your skin and your daily routine. They will be able to recommend what sort of products are going to be right for your skin type specifically.

Treat a number of different skin conditions

Once you have been diagnosed with a skin condition, you can heal your skin and treat the condition with regular facials. Problems like acne scarring, wrinkles, dehydration, rosacea, redness, inflammation, acne, sun damage, sun spots, pimples, whiteheads, and blackheads can all be minimised or treated entirely with the correct facial treatment. The same also goes for loss of elasticity and firmness.

Skin rejuvenation

The mask application, steam, massage, extraction, and exfoliation that you will get during this treatment is going to lead to skin rejuvenation. In other words, you will enjoy renewed, fresh skin. This will enhance the appearance of your skin, giving you a radiant and healthy glow, as well as a balanced complexion. You may not see the results right away. However, your skin is going to get restored in the long run, which is why it is highly recommended that you have regular facials.

Pure relaxation

Not only is a facial great in terms of your skin’s health and appearance, but you will get to enjoy sheer relaxation. Massages are great in terms of unwinding, balancing your mind, and relieving stress. Just like your body, the muscles in your face need to be massaged, and most facial treatments will include this. Your circulation will get a boost and this will detoxify your skin and stimulate your lymphatic vessels. This will make you look more youthful, radiant, and healthy. Plus, the delightful smell of the face mask is going to only add to the relaxing and soothing experience.

Fight ageing

Another benefit associated with having a facial is the fact that these treatments can help to slow down the ageing process, preventing the appearance of wrinkles in the future. Your oxygen flow and blood circulation will increase when your face is massaged with an anti-aging product. This will enhance your skin’s elasticity and promote the production of collagen. This can help to prevent wrinkles and fine lines from appearing in the future. Remember, it is never too early to start taking great care of your skin!

Treat yourself

Last but not least, you should not need an excuse to treat yourself! After all, we all deserved to be pampered from time-to-time, so why not have a relaxing and rejuvenating facial?

Facial aftercare

There are a number of different steps you can take after you have had your facial to ensure the best results. The first thing that you need to do is keep your skin hydrated. Proper hydration is imperative in order to maximise the benefits of your facial. Drinking a lot of water afterward is important. If you stay hydrated, you will flush out toxins, prevent dehydration, and you will be left with a glowing and healthy complexion. When your skin cells are hydrated sufficiently, your skin cells are going to function better, which means they are better able to absorb nutrients, eliminate toxins, and help you to keep your post-facial radiance. Applying a daily moisturiser and increasing your intake of fresh vegetables and fruits can also be beneficial.

We also recommend using a Vitamin C serum once you have had a facial. Environmental stresses post the biggest threat to your complexion. Both air pollution and extreme temperatures can suck the life out of your skin. This can contribute to the development of wrinkles and fine lines, dehydration, and dullness. This is why it is advisable to add Vitamin C serum to your skincare regime. This is a great way of boosting collagen production and brightening your dull skin. It also battles wrinkles.

Aside from this, you are also advised to exfoliate weekly. However, make sure you do not do this straight after your facial as it will hurt. After your facial, though, exfoliating once per week is a good idea. This will keep your skin smooth and soft, as well as preventing dead skin and oil from building up and making your complexion dull.

What to avoid after your facial

If you have a breakout after your facial, there is usually no need to worry about this. Sometimes the skin will purge a day or two after extractions because the skin is getting rid of toxins that are hanging out just beneath the surface. When this happens, the skin can break out in pimples or whiteheads. Because of this, it can look a bit red and inflamed. However, there is no need to worry about this – it is a normal part of the process.

There are a number of things you should not do once you have had a facial.

This includes the following:

  • Don’t use any face scrubs or exfoliators
  • Avoid working out straight after
  • Don’t have a post-facial massage (your massage will be included)
  • Stay away from the sauna

And don’t:

  • Use a toner
  • Wash your face aggressively
  • Wear makeup or heavy skincare products
  • Pick at your skin
