SkinPen Precision

at Omniya Clinic in London

What is SkinPen Precision?

SkinPen Precision system is a minimally invasive, micro-needling device intended for use of facial acne scars, hyperpigmentation and fine lines and wrinkles. The procedure creates many microscopic punctures in the skin’s outer layers. As these punctures heal, the remodelling process works to improve the appearance of these skin concerns.
This device is also well known, highly recommended and used within the NHS by medical professionals.

How does SkinPen work?

The procedure creates many microscopic punctures in the skin’s outer layers. The device contains 14 stainless steel surgical-grade needles validated for sharpness, durability and penetration depth. These micro-channels that have been made to stimulate collagen synthesis. As these punctures heal, the remodelling process works to improve the appearance of ageing and texture and reduce the appearance of pigmentation and acne scarring.

How much does SkinPen Precision cost?

SkinPen Precision starts from £400.

What happens during SkinPen?

Your practitioner will cleanse your skin and apply a thin layer of numbing cream. This is left for around 20 to 30 minutes. Once removed, a cooling HG gliding gel is then applied and your practitioner will then begin the procedure, separating the area being treated into different sections. Once treatment is completed, any excess product will be massaged into the skin.

What does my skin look like immediately after SkinPen treatment?

Your skin will have a moderate to severe redness, sunburned like appearance. Your skin can feel tight and dry. You may get pinpoint blood spots which will appear slightly darker than the rest of the face which is completely normal.

What is the downtime for SkinPen treatment?

Redness can last up to 1 week and most patients will have mild-severe peeling depending on the depth of the treatment. Peeling of the skin can start from day 1, 2 or 3. This peeling can last up to 2 weeks and varies on each patient which is completely normal. We advise not to pick any peeling skin as this can lead to further skin problems such as scarring and pigmentation.

Can I go straight back to work after SkinPen treatment?

You will not be able to apply any makeup coverage on the skin for 48 hours. After this time frame, you are able to apply make-up if any redness is still apparent on the skin.

However, please bear in mind when your skin is peeling, makeup will not appear on the skin smoothly and sometimes the peeling can be quite excessive.

Which treatment depths does SkinPen use?

We tailor the treatment depending on skin concern, this varies between 0.25mm and 1.5mm depths.

We may not use the same depth on every part of the face depending on the concerns and result you want to achieve.

Does SkinPen treatment hurt?

As numbing cream is applied, it shouldn’t feel uncomfortable. However, you may still feel a slight pin prick sensation and some areas, such as the forehead, can be a little more sensitive in regards to discomfort.

How many SkinPen treatments do I need?

On average a course of 3 to 6 sessions is recommended, this can be every 2, 4, or 6 weeks apart depending on treatment depth and concern.

Is SkinPen right for you?

Your practitioner will assess and advise you accordingly if SkinPen Precision is the right treatment for you. It can be performed safely and effectively on all skin types.

How long before I see results from SkinPen treatment?

In general, you will notice a smoother skin appearance and feel tighter. However specific concerns such as scarring, fine lines and wrinkles will start to improve after 8 to 12 weeks. Each patient’s results will differ.

SkinPen precision FAQs

What should I avoid before a SkinPen treatment?

Any active skincare products such as glycolic acid, salicylic acid and retinol or any topical form of vitamin A should not be used a week before treatment. The skin barrier should not be compromised on the day of the treatment e.g. no dryness/peeling, open breakouts that are healing. This can cause the skin to be sensitive and may cause other skin problems such as post-inflammatory pigmentation.

Also, any facial or laser treatments should be avoided 2-4 weeks prior to Skinpen treatment, please speak with your practitioner for further advice.

What areas can be treated with SkinPen?

SkinPen is most commonly used on the face, neck and decollete. However, the device can be treated on other areas of the body such as hands and the back. It depends on the skin concern we are treating which will be assessed before going ahead to ensure it is the best-suited treatment for you.

What skincare products should I use alongside SkinPen?

Before your treatment, we recommend you use basic skincare products that do not contain AHAs/BHAs and vitamin A.  After your SkinPen treatment, you will be provided with two homecare products to use for the following 48 to 72 hours. Within this time frame, we advise avoiding using any other products, including a cleanser and SPF.

You will then be able to resume your normal routine including active ingredients etc, once your skin has fully healed with no redness or peeling of the skin.

How long will the results of SkinPen treatment last?

Results will last depending on the skin concern and the home maintenance. Typically results last longer once you have completed a course and generally last up to 1 year to a year and a half. However, if you are targeting ageing, we recommend having a maintenance session once every 6 months to prevent the collagen production from slowing down again.

Can I have facials, laser, botox or dermal fillers after SkinPen?

We advise you to wait 4 weeks for any facial or laser treatment, please speak with your practitioner who will advise you further. We recommend 2 weeks after SkinPen treatment for any injectable procedures such as botox or filler.

What’s the difference between SkinPen and doing micro-needling at home?

SkinPen is a medical device that is also used in the NHS by doctors etc. There is a difference in strength due to the way SkinPen technology works in the skin and the downtime is much greater than a home use micro-needling and will always need guidance when the skin is healing. Whereas home micro-needling, if used correctly your skin may appear slightly pink but doesn’t last long. Therefore the SkinPen procedure is more effective and the results last longer.

I didn’t peel much after my SkinPen treatment, will it still work?

Yes, how much peeling or dryness will occur depends on the depth we treat and generally varies from person to person. However, minimal or excessive peeling is both normal and the treatment will still be as effective.

My redness only lasted one day, does this mean the SkinPen treatment is not as effective?

Redness from SkinPen can last from 24 hours to 1 week and sometimes longer. This also depends on the depth of the treatment and varies from person to person. We always advise to allow 1 to 2 weeks for downtime with redness and/or peeling of the skin.
